Pemsa has been awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal, a recognition that assesses the quality of organisations’ sustainability management systems based on their policies, actions and results. The Bronze Medal places Pemsa among the top 35% of companies rated by EcoVadis out of all companies assessed during the 12 months prior to the medal issue date.
Beyond the recognition itself, the assessment provides Pemsa with a new benchmark for monitoring its progress and identifying areas for improvement. The EcoVadis methodology covers four key areas: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, providing a comprehensive view of how these criteria are integrated into an organisation’s management practices.
Furthermore, Pemsa ranks among the top 9% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the Manufacture of other fabricated metal products sector, reflecting the company’s progress towards its objectives of improving quality and efficiency.
This approach is directly aligned with one of Pemsa’s key sustainability priorities: moving towards management increasingly based on data, measurable targets and performance indicators. Measuring its carbon footprint and progressively incorporating environmental information on its products are part of this process.
Measuring and reducing the carbon footprint
In order to reduce the emissions associated with an activity, the first step is to understand their scale. Pemsa has calculated its carbon footprint for the 2024 financial year, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, with a result of 927,408.32 tCO₂e.
Based on this measurement, the company has set a target to reduce its carbon footprint by 40% by 2030. Emissions measurement therefore forms part of Pemsa’s environmental strategy as a tool for establishing a baseline, setting targets and monitoring progress.
These actions are carried out within the framework of Pemsa’s ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System, which establishes procedures to identify, manage and continuously improve the environmental aspects associated with the company’s activities.
Measurement is therefore one of the key elements underpinning Pemsa’s environmental strategy, together with the definition of specific targets and the periodic assessment of progress achieved.
Quantified environmental information for almost the entire product portfolio
Pemsa also continues to expand the environmental information available for its cable management systems through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). In addition to the declarations already developed for its metal cable tray systems, four new EPDs have been added for Metatray® and the RLH, RPVC and CLH conduit systems, providing coverage for almost all product ranges in Pemsa’s portfolio.
The declarations are verified by AENOR through the GlobalEPD programme and provide quantified environmental information based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804. In addition, the new EPDs for Metatray®, RLH, RPVC and CLH extend the scope of the assessment by incorporating stage A4, covering transport to the installation site, and stage A5, covering installation on site. This provides more comprehensive information for assessing the emissions and environmental impacts associated with projects.
The EcoVadis recognition does not constitute a product certification. It is an assessment of the sustainability management system of the rated entity and its performance across the different areas covered by the EcoVadis methodology.
For Pemsa, this result represents a new benchmark from which to continue measuring its progress, identifying areas for improvement and developing actions supported by data and specific targets.
