BIM implementation in the UK

The importance of BIM technology in the United Kingdom has been consolidated thanks to the implementation and mandatory levels for the development and execution of projects and works. Level 2 was implemented in the United Kingdom, from the 4th April 2016, determining that mandatory public works projects were to be presented in BIM format.

This strategy focuses on reducing the cost of project assets, within the public sector construction industry, by 20% from 2016. It has also been introduced to drive the adoption of BIM processes across the public sector and Private partnerships to promote their benefits, including cost reduction, predictable planning, performance improvement, risk reduction, and more.

Integration and collaborative work in the design of the facility.

The philosophy of BIM works through various software applications such as REVIT, ArchiCAD, Sketchup, AllPlan, etc., and provides solutions in a manner that allows the integration of various Architecture and Engineering Solutions within Architectural Design, Structures, Facades, HVAC installations, Electrical installations, etc., facilitating the development of the project in an integrated way. The users of BIM systems have at their disposal several platforms or communities such as Autodesk Seek (now integrated in Bimobject), NBS, National BIM Library, Bimstore, etc. Along with sharing knowledge these platforms also expose work dynamics and, above all, collect and organise a wide catalogue of BIM objects, products and systems from various manufacturers. In this way users can access a unique site where they can download and update their BIM objects or models in a functional and easy way.
Another advantage is the integration of toolbars within the software itself. Amongst the software applications, REVIT and Archicad have included this toolbar that allows the user to quickly access and include BIM objects directly into their designs or BIM projects.

Enrichment of technical information in all phases of project life

BIM Systems allow a better definition of the characteristics and technical data for building elements from the design and development of the project right through to installation, maintenance and subsequent occupation of the building or asset in the future.

Not only does a correct design provide all of the technical characteristics of the installation for a later execution, but it is even more important to have this detail of facilities in the management of the project, This then takes into account parameters of efficiency and correct functioning, safety and especially energy efficiency or energy consumption through LEED and BREEAM certifications.

Manufacturer Mission in the BIM development of the facilities
